Trogir is the ancient historic town and port, located about 25 kilometers northeast of Split and approximately 50 kilometers northeast of the Medici. There are about 20 000 inhabitants in Trogir. The old town of Trogir is situated on a small island between the mainland and the islands of Šolta and there it can be reached by car. Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Trogir was established in the third century BC by the Greek colonists from the island of Vis. Trogir is named after the Greek word Tragos, which in Greek means goat, and prior the Roman period it wasKamerlengo Castle Trogir (radicevic) an important port. In the Roman period it was less important due to the influence of the Roman city of Salona (todays city of Solin near Split). Trogir gains back its importance after the fall of Salona during the migration of Slavs.

Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic, but in all of Central Europe. Trogir's medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Trogir's grandest building is the church of St. Lawrence, whose main west portal is a masterpiece by Radovan, and the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in Croatia.
